Calling all friends of felines! This year, the Chico Cat Coalition celebrates its 25th year of rescuing and rehoming the abandoned, domesticated cats of Chico. Since 1998, volunteers throughout Chico have been tirelessly advocating and rescuing lost kitties throughout our city, and we’re so proud to say we’ve brought thousands of kitties home over our two-and-a-half decades in rescue.

Originally founded to help alleviate the overpopulation of cats in Bidwell Park, the Chico Cat Coalition has since expanded into a shelter and adoption center.  Our mission is to rescue abandoned domesticated cats within the greater Chico area, providing them with veterinary care, spaying and neutering, and all housing needs — including love! — until they can be adopted into permanent homes. We also seek to increase public awareness about responsible cat care, the necessity of spaying and neutering, and the consequences of cat abandonment.

This year also marks the third anniversary of our Moonlight Meows Online Auction, our annual fundraiser dedicated to raising the funds for the medical care, housing, and adoption services for the cats. The Chico Cat Coalition is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation run entirely by volunteers and solely funded by donations. This fundraiser is crucial to our operations!

Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 for something extremely important at the shelter: a heating and cooling system. For the last 25 years, the shelter has survived 100+ degree temperatures for our cats with ice packs, fans, and swamp coolers in the summer and a barely operational heater and blankets in the winter. On those 110+ days, our cats are melted. Click here to see a video of how our shelter operates today.

Our cats are resilient, and our volunteers, too, but they deserve better. $10,000 will buy us a mini-split system enough to properly cool and warm the cats in our one-of-a-kind open shelter system (no other shelter in Chico has one like it!)

Will you help us? Please mark your calendars! The auction is coming up the end of October!
